The Art of Note Taking
By following these ten steps, you will become a better user and this will help you to improve your reading skills. With good note-taking skills, better marks are at hand.
1. If possible, sit close to the front and center of the classroom. You will be less likely to be disturbed and more likely to find it easier to stay focused.
2. Use a binder instead of a traditional notebook. This way you can add, rearrange, or rewrite the pages of your notes, add handouts and check the appropriate time sequences and update items covered in the chapter / unit very easily.
3. Enter the titles and date of all the papers. Arrange them in order in your commitment.
4. Write the notes on a piece of paper and keep them in a binder with three rings. Make sure you open the punch and add all the handouts, tasks to be done, questions, tests, etc. it is your responsibility. It is best if everything of the chapter / unit is kept in chronological order in your commitment.
5. Think about what is being said before you write anything down. Do not write down everything the teacher says. Choose important phrases, goals, and ideas to focus on.
6. Write down any examples the teacher could give in her teaching. Examples are very important in creating connections in your brain and in helping to use your memory while you are learning.
7. Look at the signs that teachers give to show that something is important. For example, they can repeat an object several times, change the volume or tone of their voice, write it on the board or up, and/or make a list. Make sure you ask them to repeat what they just said when you skip the first track but later realize that you have to write the story down.
8. Leave space between sections of your notes so that you can comment further as you read or read the text.
9. Rewrite or TYPE your notes. Not only are your notes more structured and easy to read, but repeating them gives you another chance to think about the story as you rewrite it. Make sure you rewrite them at right time. If too much time is spent between taking the first notes and rewriting them, this strategy becomes less effective.
10. Review these notes regularly. The more often you see them, the easier it will be to memorize them and you will spend less time studying them before the test.
