While traveling to Northern Cyprus, you may be interested to know that this is home to some of the most important turtle beaches in the Mediterranean. In Northern Cyprus, two nesting species  are endangered species. About 10% of loggerhead and 30% of green tortoises live in the Mediterranean in northern Cyprus. Keeping in mind that about 300-400 and 2000 green tortoises may live each year throughout the Mediterranean region, it is important that people do all they can to help and protect these endangered species.

These North Cyprus Marine tortoises begin their life on earth, where they emerge from their eggs, just after 45-60 days of incubation in the soil and sand. When tortoises hatch and emerge, and begin to make an effort to reach the sea, they swim down to the sea where they live for the rest of their lives, the only success in this situation would be when the old female arrives. on the beach and lay its eggs.

It is estimated that both stimuli will contribute to the health and maturity of adults. As soon as they are 25-30 years old, and reach a height of about three to six feet [1 to 2 m], older females and males migrate from the shore to the nests and feed. During the breeding season the female lays 3-4 nests, each carrying about 100 eggs. will breed every 1-3 years and will always return to the same beaches. There is no definitive estimate for the life span of these sea turtles but it has been suggested that they live to be 160 years old.

There are two species of sea turtles breeding in the North Mediterranean and they can be loggerhead, caretta caretta and green turtle (chelonia mydas). per year. Both species of sea turtles are endangered, especially the green turtles. North Cyprus and Turkey are said to be the only breeding grounds for tortoises. There are more than 80 beaches in Northern Cyprus between May and October and are closely monitored for the work of the precious tortoise.
